Rosalyn May Meier McCall Hall Stellmon, 89, has gone to be with Jesus and her loved ones on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, at her home in Viola.
Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the First Presbyterian Church, 405 S. Van Buren St., in Moscow, with a reception to follow. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Moscow Cemetery.
Rosalyn was born on Dec. 5, 1934, in Clarkston, to Arthur and Hazel Meier at the home of her aunt Murial.
She lived with her parents on their farm 12 miles northeast of Reubens, along with her two sisters, Jackie and Gerrie. They grew up enjoying the farm life and helping her parents whenever needed. This developed a close loving relationship that continued throughout her life. She attended a one-room school (the Meier School) for her first three years of school. The rest of her grade school and high school was at Reubens.
She married James “Jim” McCall on July 12, 1951. They lived in Paso Robles, Calif., and Alexandra, Va., while he was in the U.S. Army, then returned to the Reubens area where he worked for his father-in-law on the farm. They had two children, Michelle and Roger. After 16 years of marriage, they divorced but remained friends.
On June 30, 1967, she married Forrest “Frosty” Hall and they resided at his country home 4 miles east of Viola. He was a professor of civil engineering at the University of Idaho. They enjoyed country living and also traveling throughout the United States and Canada. They enjoyed the Calgary Stampede many times and the beautiful Rockies in Banff National Park. Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia, was a favorite place for them to spend their anniversaries, dining and dancing in their famous hotel. They also made five trips to Mexico and four to the Hawaiian Islands, and drove to the east coast twice to see the different states and enjoy the brilliant fall colors.
With their horses and dog, they spent several weeks each summer packed into the wilderness area camping, fishing, hiking and riding their horses. She especially enjoyed the German shepherd dogs they had through the years, and her little Jack Russell terrier, which was her companion after the loss of her husband. Frosty passed away in September of 2007. They had been married for 40 years. She loved flowers, cooking and caring for her family. She was family oriented, centering her life around her husband and children. She and Frosty enjoyed doing things together and were avid ballroom dancers.
She was a member of the Moscow First Presbyterian church and a true believer in Robert Schuller’s Hour of Power on television.
After her husband’s death, she continued to live in the country. In going to church, she became acquainted with Bill Stellmon who had lost his wife, also to cancer, about four years earlier. He was also a UI retiree, having worked as a writer/editor in the College of Agriculture for more that 25 years. It was not long before they fell in love and they were married April 20, 2013. From this marriage she gained four stepdaughters: Susan Willemsen, Kerry Joebgen, Kim Farbo (who died in 2017) and Nancy Suski, and another stepson Dave Stellmon.
Rosalyn in survived by her husband Bill Stellmon; son Roger (Peggy) McCall, of Sandpoint; stepson Rodney Hall, of Hayden, Idaho; son-in-law Fed Canfield, of Bend, Ore.; two grandchildren Dale (Erika) McCall, of Sandpoint, and Rosa (Patricia) Carr, of Spokane; seven great-grandchildren Matt and Justin Canfield, of Portland, Ore., Brian Forney, of Chandler, Ariz., Emmalynn and Skyler Carr, of Spokane, Gage Ramsay, of Sandpoint, and Ellesyn McCall, of Sandpoint; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
