Seamus Michael Coan, of Pullman, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023, at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Spokane. He was 16 years old.
Seamus was born Oct. 14, 2007, in Walnut Creek, Calif., to Sean and Rose Coan. He was joined by a sister, Harper, in 2009. After living in the Bay Area, the family moved to Helena, Mont., where Seamus attended kindergarten through third grade. Twin siblings Finn and Sage were born in 2016. The family moved to Pullman in 2017. Seamus attended Sunnyside Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School and Pullman High School.
Seamus took his responsibility as big brother seriously. He enjoyed leading science experiments around the house, reading to the twins, playing on the trampoline and trips to the park. His message to his brother was “stand tall, have courage and never give up.” Seamus adored his siblings and was a patient and loving big brother.
Seamus was a natural leader and extrovert with a big personality. His huge smile and warm laugh continue to echo through the home. He liked skateboarding, listening to music, writing lyrics for his own music and reading. He was an avid walker and spent hours exploring. Seamus loved to be among trees and mountains. A trip to the Oregon Coast in 2021 was a highlight for Seamus; he was so happy swimming and collecting rocks.
Seamus is survived by his parents, Sean and Rose, and siblings Harper, 13, Finn, 7, and Sage, 7. He is also survived by his uncle, Jordan Howell of Moscow, grandmother Jacqueline Coan of Moscow, grandparents Sharon Peterson and Fred Franz of Ashland, Ore., and grandparents Stephen Lyons and Jan Gantz of Monticello, Ill. Seamus was preceded in death by his aunt, Jenny Coan in 2016 and his grandfather, Michael Coan in 1997.
The family would like to thank Pullman EMS, Pullman Regional Hospital and the nurses and pilot of Life Flight. And thank you to the nurses and physicians at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital for their compassionate care for Seamus. Your kindness towards the family and Seamus was a beacon of light in a dark time.
Memorial services for Seamus will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Round House Public House Pavilion, 1260 Palouse Hills Drive, Pullman. A reception to follow the service. All are welcome.
