Susan Franko passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in Moscow. She was born March 24, 1947, to James and Janice Shephard in Yakima. Suzy grew up working in her father’s orchard and attended school in Wapato, Wash. It was there that she got her first horse and thereafter had a horse most of her life. She especially enjoyed packing into the backcountry. She also was a hard worker in the orchard, helping her father by maintaining the irrigation system and changing the oil in the vehicles.

She graduated high school at Wapato and attended Yakima Junior College for two years before enrolling at Washington State University and getting a degree in speech, radio and television, specializing in production. She graduated from WSU in 1969.

She worked for KWSU in programming and production for about 15 years. She then started her own business, Page Design, doing bulk mailing, contact creation for advertising, and designing and editing.

Suzy married Steve Franko on Aug. 16, 1969, and soon made their home in Moscow, enjoying life in the woods near Moscow Mountain.

Suzy had been one of Jehovah’s Witnesses since 1972. Her memorial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1290 SE Johnson Ave., Pullman.
