Terry E. Smith, 79, a resident of Potlatch, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, at Miss Dorothy’s Adult Family Home in Pullman.
Terry was born on July 27, 1944, in Spokane to Harry and Elsie (Johnson) Smith. Terry attended his schooling in Spokane, and graduated from the Lewis and Clark High School in 1963.
Terry joined the United States Navy on Feb. 7, 1963, and was discharged on Jan. 7, 1965.
Terry married Marilyn Harris on Aug. 22, 1973 in Potlatch, and the couple made their home at Potlatch. Terry was employed at Potlatch Forests, Inc., as a Millwright-Planner. After the mill closed Terry worked for the Potlatch Elementary School as a custodian until he retired in 2011. Mrs. Smith died in 2009.
Terry enjoyed woodworking, camping, traveling, cross-stitching, frames for pictures and family time.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Lee Smith (Sheryl), of Princeton, and Philip Smith (Melissa), of Potlatch; his companion since 2012, Jeanne Posey, of Potlatch; one sister, Gayle Benjamin (Jeff), of Spirit Lake, Idaho. Terry is also survived by two grandchildren, Mackayla and Marlee Smith. Terry was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Princeton Church of the Nazarene, 1008 Gold Hill Road, Princeton, with the Rev. Lee Nicholson officiating. Military honors will be held with the United States Navy Honor Guard and Potlatch Post No. 10300 VFW participating. A covered-dish dinner will follow the service at the church.
Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Freeze Cemetery.
