Wind is a natural resource

About 10 years ago my wife and I took a trip to Denmark to visit relatives. We were surprised by the huge wind turbines we saw from almost every highway.

At first the giant machines seemed out of place but gradually we came to see them as a natural part of the landscape.

Windmills have been an important energy resource here for centuries because of the strong North Sea winds. The Danes say the wind is their natural resource.

The wind is a natural resource on the Palouse.

In the letter, “Wind farm not welcome” (May 15), the author asks the developers to spare the Palouse area from wind farms. Almost half of our Avista power is generated by fossil fuels. This will increase unless we provide alternative energy sources.

We have that alternate resource from our wind.

For the benefit of our children and grandchildren, we should use it.
