How is Trump the one?

Larry (Kirkland), you say you want what is best for our country, but you never explain how Trump is the one.

Is Trump really the best for the country? He stated from day one he will be a dictator — only for the day. Ya, right. Those tax breaks he gave you last time he was in office? They will expire within the next year. He has proposed additional tax breaks for the super wealthy (he is included) and increased tariffs for all imported goods. Guess who pays those tariffs, Larry. Hint: It will not be the exporting countries.

You provided a litany of Biden wrongs. I can do the same with Trump. Top of them all was his mishandling of the pandemic. But, of course, you fail to accept that it was real. How many riots happened during the Trump administration? There were over 60,000 protests involving 31 million people during his time. Our national debt jumped from $14 trillion to nearly $22 trillion — that’s over a 57% increase. Yes, under Biden, the national debt has increased to $28 trillion, but that is only 33% more than when Trump left office. While Hunter was convicted of one firearm crime, how many times has Trump been convicted? How many charges are still pending?

In truth, I think both men are not what is best for the country. To me, both are too old. Biden had a disastrous time at the debate, but Trump was not better. Trump has a problem with spewing forth what amounts as word salads hinting at cognitive decline too.

What is needed is younger leaders on both sides of the aisle.

Larry, I know you claim to be Christian, but you really cannot praise Trump and God at the same time.

Passing the buck?

I read with great anticipation our BoCC’s June 11, 2024, “Review of Public Comments on Commercial Wind Power Ordinance.” I had hoped to learn that our board had taken a bold and proactive position in support of those concerns expressed by our residents. I was sadly disappointed.

Those resident concerns numbered no fewer than 15, and the review cited BoCC reactions to, and planning staff recommendations for, each. Item by item, setbacks, tax revenues, bird impact, noise, property values, etc., were all chronicled. My analysis of the review suggested that the BoCC had done little but pass the buck for addressing these concerns to others, including their planning staff, our current code, CUP, SEPA, Hearing Examiner, LUPA, EFSEC and the governor. Least one gets lost in this “alphabet soup” of entities, one is left to wonder exactly how, or if, our own BoCC will do anything?

The irony of all this is that our current code, as previously devised by our Planning Commission (of which I was a past member) and approved by our BoCC, was so ill-defined as to encourage the wind turbine issue to arise for potential exploitation and defamation of Kamiak Butte, as well as give rise to a listing of 14 other concerns.

Exactly what are the individual views of each of our elected commissioners and why have they remained silent for so long? Please speak up, state your course of action, and don’t pass the buck to this alphabet soup of nonelected entities. Of all such entities, it is ONLY the BoCC that is directly accountable to our concerned county residents.

Feeling disenfranchised

I’m angry at the National Democratic Party for letting our presidential election come to this. Insiders certainly knew before the debate that Biden’s age was going to be a serious problem. After seeing Biden’s bad performance showing his cognitive decline, I realize I have no one to vote for in the November election, because I will never vote for Biden or Trump.

After George Stephanopoulos’ ABC interview, it was evident that Biden is in a state of denial about his being able to win the election even after Stephanopoulos hammered Biden on his low approval rating. Biden will not take a cognitive test. The only way to get another nominee is for him to drop out. If Biden would leave the race, the party could hold a quick primary, making the process as competitive and open as possible. This idea was brought up by Jim Clyburn, of South Carolina, from the U.S. House. There have got to be other Democrats who would be up to the task that could be tested in a primary (including Kamala Harris). A promising candidate could give a shot in the arm to the Democratic Party and a choice to the American people.

How about transparency, Joe?

Don’t gaslight us, Joe. And please don’t throw shade at Democrats, whether folks on the street or the “party elites” who are worrying about you and our democracy’s future. We are doing our best to suspend judgment, taking you up on your “Watch me!” challenge to prove your ability to BEAT TRUMP. Karine Jean-Pierre’s press conference did not help. Transparency matters!

Yes, Dems like me would, as one guy put it, “vote for Biden rather than Trump, even if he was DEAD!” I don’t see any of us voting for Trump. But unless the campaign looks honest and transparent rather than just confident and defiant, I am scared that young folks might not vote, and independents and Never Trumpers might sit it out or worse.

So while you are out there on the campaign trail, why not authorize release of those medical records and clear up the confusion about the neurologist’s visits so we can get back to highlighting the contrast between the Democrats’ agenda versus the MAGA Republicans’ plan (Project 2025) to convert our 250-year-old democracy into an autocratic kleptocracy. Just asking.
