Spreading verse

Cheryl Jones, left, and Marcia Tempel, both Athenaeum Club members, at the Colfax Library with a pair of poetry books the club donated to the Whitman County Library District. The library is focusing on poetry in 2023, and the books will be added to the library’s collection. The titles are “Turn Around Time: a walking poem for the Pacific Northwest” by David Guterson and “I Sing the Salmon Home: poems from Washington State” edited by Rena Priest, Washington state’s poet laureate. The Athenaeum Club was established in 1885 as one of the first clubs for women in Washington. With more than 125 years of activities and projects, Athenaeum continues to be a proud supporter and promoter of the Colfax community.
