PULLMAN — Brayden Randall completed the lone run of the day and top-seeded Pullman baseball team edged out Clarkston 1-0 in a Washington Class 2A district tournament semifinal game on the Greyhounds’ home field Thursday.

Starting pitcher Caleb Northcroft threw 12 strikeouts and held the Bantams (6-16) to three hits in the shutout, gaining credit for the win from the mound. Calvin Heusser stepped in for the final strikeout of the seventh inning to pick up the save.

Randall had a game-high two hits for the Hounds (17-4), while Heusser notched a double. Hayden Line provided the highlight moment of the game for Clarkston, hitting a triple.

Pullman advances to the title round, where it will face West Valley of Spokane Valley at 1 p.m. on Saturday back at home.

Coeur d’Alene 4, Lewiston 2

COEUR D’ALENE — In an Idaho Class 5A district tournament second-place game, Lewiston saw its season come to an end at the hands of the host Vikings.

Guy Krasselt made a team-high two hits with one RBI for the Bengals (14-11), who scored both of their runs in the top of the third inning before conceding the last two scores of the game to Coeur d’Alene (16-10).

I’m just really proud of our players and the culture that we’rebuilding in the program and just excited to have a bunhc of guys back next year and get it going again.

Bear jumpers excel at Districts

COEUR D’ALENE — Moscow produced individual event winners, but trailed in overall team scoring through Day 1 in the Idaho Class 4A district meet held at Viking Stadium.

The Bears specialized in jumping events, getting first-place performances in the boys long jump from Keaton Frei (18 feet, 6 3/4 inches) and the girls high jump courtesy of Mattea Nuhn (5-2). Moscow also enjoyed a girls 800 medley relay victory by Jasmine Carr, Addie Lassen, Ashlyn Fakhouri and Jessika Lassen, who combined for a time of 1 minute, 52.31 seconds.

The district meet concludes today at the same site.

UI’s Tait wins Big Sky title in women’s heptathlon

BOZEMAN, Mont. — The Vandals’ Hanna Tait rallied from more than 50 points down to claim the Big Sky conference title in the women’s heptathlon with a total score of 5,347.

Tait, who had trailed Montana State’s Shelby Schweyen through Wednesday’s competition, won two of the three heptathlon events on Thursday to claim the title. She was first in the long jump with a length cleared of 19 feet, 1.25 inches, and won the javelin with a throw of 141-2. Tait wrapped up her heptathlon triumph with a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run, clocking 2 minutes, 27.57 seconds.
