Idaho’s 10-year track and field and cross country coach Tim Cawley has left the Vandals to take another NCAA Division I job, it was announced on Wednesday.

Cawley’s new landing spot is yet to be announced.

Cawley took over the program in 2014 and helped the Vandals win 42 individual conference championships and three Big Sky Outstanding Athletes in Zach Short, Grady Leonard and Mia Sylvester.

“I have truly enjoyed my time here at Idaho,” Cawley said in a news release. “I’m grateful to (former athletic director) Rob Spear for trusting me with the responsibility to lead these teams and I couldn’t be more thankful to Chris Walsh and Terry Gawlik for the trust and guidance over the past few years. I was lucky to have an amazing staff over my tenure. My biggest thank you goes to all the incredible student-athletes I have had the privilege to work with over my years here.

“The team culture that they embody is so special and unique. It always made it enjoyable to come to work. I’m excited to see the future of Vandal track and field and cross country.”

Cawley’s wife Cathleen was the assistant coach for the Vandals for seven seasons before leaving to work for Alabama in 2021.

Idaho announced it will immediately begin a nation-wide search for a new director of track and field and cross country.

David Riley takes over a WSU men’s basketball program fresh off its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2008.

The new-look Cougs return two players from their previous NCAA Tournament season and bring in four Eastern Washington transfers who followed Riley to Pullman.

WSU will face Boise State on Dec. 7, in Boise, renew the Boeing Apple Cup Series versus the UW Huskies on Dec. 18 at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle and travel to Las Vegas to meet Northern Iowa Dec. 21 at the Orleans Arena.
