MOSCOW — University of Idaho Athletic Director Terry Gawlik announced in a news release on Monday that Arthur Moreira will take over for Carrie Eighmey as the next women's basketball coach.
Moreira was an assistant under Eighmey last season.
"I am thrilled to name coach Moreira as our next head women's basketball coach," Idaho Athletic Director Terry Gawlik said in the news release. "Arthur's strong recruiting skills, his quest for improving our program and relationship building within the community made it a clear choice to promote him to head coach."
Moreira becomes the Vandals' 11th women's basketball coach in program history. He's also the first ever Brazilian head coach in NCAA Division I history.
"I am deeply honored and grateful to become the next head women's basketball coach at the University of Idaho," Moreira said in a news release. "I would like to extend my sincere thanks to President Scott Green and Terry Gawlik for this incredible opportunity to lead a program with such a proud and winning tradition."
Moreira has already brought in six recruits to UI, including Oklahoma transfer Kelbie Washington, who is one of the highest-ranked recruits to come through Idaho, having an overall ranking of No. 66 and being the No. 10 guard in the Class of 2021 according to ESPN.
