Washington State guard DaVonte Lacy was named to the Pac-12 men's basketball first team Monday, making him the first Cougar to earn the honor in three years.

Lacy, who averaged 19.4 points per game as a junior, became the first WSU player since Brock Motum to earn first-team recognition. The senior saw his average drop to 17.2 this year (good enough for fourth in the Pac-12) but increased his assist total. The Tacoma native upped his assist average from 1.4 per game last year to 2.1 this season as the team went 13-17 overall and 7-11 in Pac-12 play.

Lacy's final home game was a memorable one, as he hit the game-tying shot against Colorado on Senior Night with 1.1 seconds to play. The Cougars eventually won 96-91 in overtime. He was also a model of consistency, scoring double figures in all but four games this year. He also started every game and played at least 20 minutes in 29 of the team's 30 games.

The senior wasn't the only WSU player to receive recognition, as sophomore Josh Hawkinson earned the conference's Most Improved Player of the Year honor, in addition to being named All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. Hawkinson was a lock for the most improved award, as he was second in the country this season in increased scoring from the previous year. He was also the most improved rebounder in the country. After averaging just 1.2 points per game and 1.6 rebounds per game in 2013-2014, he averaged 14.7 points and 10.8 rebounds this season. His rebounding average was also best in the conference.

He became a double-double machine, setting the school record with 19 this year - breaking the 48-year record held by Jim McKean, who recorded 17. McKean also led the conference in that category, and tied Ted Werner for WSU's single-season rebounding record with 323, which has stood since 1964.

Hawkinson, a native of Shoreline, Wash., played 804 more minutes this season than in 2013-2014, and was also third in the Pac-12 this year in free throw percentage, shooting .842 from the charity stripe.

The Cougars will play Cal at noon Wednesday at the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament in Las Vegas.
