EUGENE, Ore. — Paul Ryan completed the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3 minutes, 39.12 seconds at the Olympic trials on Friday at Hayward Field.

Ryan, a former Logos High School and Washington State track standout who races professionally for Adidas, finished 10th in the second heat.

Nike’s Cole Hocker won the event with a time of 3:34.54.

Ryan’s time placed him 29th overall among 38 competitors. He will not advance to the finals.

This is Ryan’s second time competing at the Olympic trials. In his last time competing at the trials in 2021, Ryan had a time of 3:45.86.

WSU’s Walburn 10th place through Day 1 of decathlon

EUGENE, Ore. — Former Washington State decathlete Lee Walburn finished the first half of the Olympic trials decathlon in 10th place with 4,078 points at Hayward Field.

Walburn, who finished his college career as an All-American with the Cougars this spring, finished 10th in the shot put (47 feet, 6 inches), seventh in the high jump (6-6) and seventh in the 400 (48.44).

Walburn will finish competition in the decathlon today. He will compete in the 110 hurdles, the discus, the pole vault, the javelin and the 1,500.

LIBBY, Mont. — Kole Scharnhorst and Kolby Hawley had two hits apiece for the Blue Devils, who fell to the Wolves in the Big Bucks tournament.

One of Hawley’s hits brought in the only run of the game for Moscow (3-19).

Trey Magallon had four strikeouts in five innings pitched in relief.

Patriots drop one game at Palouse Summer Series

The Patriots lost to City Baseball of Seattle 4-3 in the Palouse Summer Series at Pullman High School. JD Peterson had two hits for Pullman, including a double in a loss.

The Patriots’ second game of the day against Washington Academy of Seattle was tied 8-8 in the top of the sixth at press time.
