An active aurora borealis fills the night sky Thursday from a viewpoint along Kamiak Butte Park Road between Palouse and Pullman. The aurora forms fine pleats in the auroral curtain categorized as rayed arcs, or vertical stripes and striations, when it becomes more active, according to the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute.Liesbeth Powers/Moscow-Pullman Daily News
