Moscow Democrat David Nelson will be Idaho’s next senator to represent District 5.

While Nelson only held a 700-vote led with several Benewah County precincts and several thousand Latah County ballots left to be counted, he pulled away when Moscow absentee ballots were tallied -- and it wasn’t even close.

Nelson brought in 11,197 votes (57.5 percent) throughout the district, which only includes Latah and Benewah counties, while Foreman received 8,264 votes (42.5 percent).

As Republicans have in years past, Foreman dominated in Benewah County, where he received 2,581 votes (70 percent). Nelson received just 1,106 (30 percent).

But it was in Latah County where Nelson won the Senate seat. He brought in 10,091 votes (63.9 percent). Foreman fell far behind with 5,683 (36.1 percent).
