The Spokane Explosive Disposal Unit was called to Pullman this morning in response to a pipe bomb placed at the City Playfields at 830 SE South Street.

A statement from Pullman Police Chief Gary Jenkins said police responded to a report of a possible bomb seen by a passerby around 8 a.m. at the playfields.

Officers located the bomb next to electrical panels on the west side of the playfields next to a walking and bike path.

Officers secured the area and called the Spokane Explosive Disposal Unit.

Around 10:10 a.m. the unit arrived and diffused the bomb. Evidence of attempts to light the bomb’s fuse was found at the scene.

The device will be sent to the crime lab for further examination.

This is the second incident in a week that a pipe bomb-like device was found on the Palouse. The bomb squad was called to Moscow on Wednesday to disarm a device at Robinson Mobile Home Court.

That investigation is ongoing.
