2017 One year ago today

The Latah County Commissioners voted Monday to increase user fees at Robinson Park after a public hearing - which no one from the public attended. Tent camping at Robinson Park jumped from $5 a night to $10 and recreational vehicle hookup sites at the same park increased from $10 to $15. ... Pullman Police Chief Gary Jenkins said he has received no negative feedback about a proposed ordinance by the department that would legalize all-terrain vehicles on Pullman public streets. Only two people testified at a public hearing hosted by the Pullman Police Advisory Committee.

2013 Five years ago today

Pullman Police arrested two Washington State University students Wednesday for their alleged involvement in the March 30 assault of instructor David Warner. Investigators believe Joshua W. Nantz, 23, and Madeline A. Fouts, 21, are two of the four suspects shown in video surveillance footage taken just before and after the attack. ... Relay for Life events around the world have a new theme this year - Go the Distance - and it all started in Latah County. Members of the University of Idaho men's music fraternity Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia will perform an a cappella barbershop version of it during the Latah County Relay for Life.

Lab results have yet to confirm whether a University of Idaho student contracted bacterial meningitis. Donna Anderson, staff epidemiologist for the North Central District Health Department in Lewiston, said her department is still waiting for the results. ... Pastor Dean Stewart of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Moscow is seeking new ways to welcome gay and lesbian people into his congregation. "We're always looking to let people know they're welcome," Stewart said after a presentation by Rev. Bradley Schmeling at Washington State University on Thursday, titled "Gay and Ordained: Living Across the Great Religious Divide."

1993 25 years ago today

Proposed tuition increases drew a few uncharacteristically sharp remarks from the Washington State University Board of Regents on Friday. "This shoes how desperate they are to raise money," Regent Richard Davis said of the anticipated tuition increases of between 19 percent and 40 percent. ... The University of Idaho's proposed 10.03 percent undergraduate fee hike goes up to the Idaho Board of Education for approval Thursday. The board will consider increasing full-time fees for resident undergraduates at the state's public college and universities by an average of 8.13 percent.
