Three Washington State University students were displaced when a fire damaged their rental house on College Hill Wednesday afternoon.
The Pullman Fire Department said in a news release firefighters responded to Opal Street around 3 p.m. after the department received a report of smoke and flames coming from a home. Neighbors reportedly saw the blaze, checked if the occupants had left the building and notified law enforcement.
The fire was confined to the roof and attic, however living areas on the first floor received water damage. The news release said firefighters used a defensive approach to extinguish the fire because the attic was sealed off and the roof was determined to be unstable.
No one was hurt from the fire, according to the news release. WSU Student Affairs has been notified to help find the students alternative housing.
The news release said Pullman firefighters were assisted by Whitman County Rural District 12 and the Moscow Fire Department.
The cause of the blaze is still being investigated, however the news release said officials suspect it may have been electrical.
