Special thanks to Debbie Kadlec for sharing an example of the "spirit of cooperation and reciprocity" in her recent letter ("Letters: An example for all," Dec. 11).
It is a good example for Congress and a reminder that they need to hear from us about issues like this. One way is to send this letter to those who represent you in Congress, adding a personal note about why you are sending it.
Although the election is over, the work of the people continues with actions like this. This is why the SNAP program is being protected as America's first line defense against hunger: constituents told their representatives to maintain it.
It is the reason we are getting close to the AIDS free generation, because the people have asked for America to lead in this battle. By making a significant pledge to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and malaria, 27 million lives have been saved since 2002.
At the same time, America's pledge inspires other donors to provide two-thirds of the funding for the Global Fund. This ongoing process continues next year and is critical to finally control these three global pandemics.
So let's follow of the "fine folk" in Latah County and work together to create a better country and world.
